Hi gents. I read here that the banjo pins that stop the pivot pin from turning are not much good. Well, all seem well except the one that takes the most stress, the bucket curl. What I want to know is why must the pin be fixed, why can't it be allowed to rotate, with just a large split pin where the banjo sits? Had a look at my hydraulic pump today, there are some unhealthy lines inside the body, but I don't think that's my problem.

I believe it will wear on the metal ends vs dispersed across the pin. Once that wears, not much you can do, except welding and re-drilling. I haven't tried it, but think you could find some eye bolts that would fit and be stronger. Might have to shorten to fit.

Hi Andy, Yeh the keepers for the pins are kinda soft..I have rolled and broken 5 or 6 of em.I thought that after some use the pins would get a little looser and stop rolling. I replaced them so far with some 5/16" eye bolts that I cut the ends off to make em shorter.Their about $1.29 at the local hardware store..I have a "Genie" manlift that uses the same pin keepers but they are 3/8" and hardened.maybe someday I'll find some hard 5/16" ones. Or even try getting them "RED" hot and oil quenching them to see if it helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks gents. I did harden the pin, but it still bent. I'm picking up large rocks and the hoe is very strong to say the least, so it's understandable. If there are no short term wear problems I'll let the pin rotate and I'm rid of the problem. I do grease regularly. Well, thanks again

I just welded mine with a few beads. Nothing a grinder cannot remove if need be.
