Check this baby out, this thing is so cool I want to get two so I can leave one in the lawn and just stare it while I am not working. I think this may me the the hottest mulching machine that has ever been thought of.

Tigercat 480 mulcher sneak peak

TC makes some very nice, well thought out gear.

Very cool machine.

what is oscillating tracks?

and in todays world, why are the cabs still at the back end of bulldozers when it would seem clear to me that it makes more sence to put them at the front so you can see what your pushing.

ie that tiger cat seems to be a decent sized high-lift style dozer turned around with a mulching head.

Think of oscillating tracks as a type of track suspension. Rather than a fixed mount they can pivot, up and down independently giving better ride and traction.

That machine is built from the ground up as a mulcher. its not a converted dozer. It was never meant to "push" dirt. All TC machines are dedicated and built ground up as woods gear. Having a cab up and out of the way is a good thing in this case. Visibility would be excellent for the job at hand.

Dozers have engines in the front for counter weight (downforce) and visability when backing. There have been rear engine dozers... Google Eimco dozer... The lone exception
is Komatsu's mid/rear engine finish dozer.

Loaders and this rig use the engine to counter the weight of the bucket or mulching head
without adding so much weight to the machine.

500 hp!? I'm afraid to ask how much is the complete kit, and what is the expected operating cost per hour. Someone asked already?

That's and easy one....a whole lot and a bunch.::eek::D

At first I was not impressed until I thought about how big the machine is and how big the material he was working was. The mid point on the undercarriage is 21 inches meaning the top of the tracks are over 3 feet off of the ground. That was some huge material he was mulching. Not to mention the root ball that was no match for it right at the end.
