So the other day I asked here if anyone had a step on thier 33D or other compact NH.. I guess you could say my question was loaded, I wanted to see what they looked like so I could build one similar to the OE one. Anyhoo, I cooked this up over the weekend, it's not perfect, but it works reasonably well. I am not sure if I am using the 'correct' mounting place for it (I used the 2 little welded on tabs under the floor), but it seem strong enough for my 265# climbing up on.. Here are the pics..

Wow.. those look pretty beefy... my 35D came w/ the sidesteps.. since that time they have gotten bent some. The only draw back I see to the beefed up one's is.. if your in the thick.. and sticks or brush push against your steps w/ a certain amount of force.. your steps won't bend.. but your platform might. Looking good!

Thanks! I had thought about colission damage. I think it's protected by the FEL lower mount a little.. (I hope!) Thanks for the heads up though!

Very nice job, Kris. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif The only thing you might add is to cut some v-shaped grooves in the outer lip. My factory step has holes punched into it so the radial lip sticks up for extra traction. When your shoes are wet, painted edges can get a little slippery. How do I know? Well, I slipped off mine one time already. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

yikes!! That must have hurt. Thanks for the tip, I was going to cut some Vs into the vertical tread, but forgot before I put on the first coat of paint.. It's still more or less a prototype, so I wouldnt' be heartbroken to modify it. Now that I think of it, I might drill some 1 inch holes, to allow snow/water to flow out of the step tread.. I can see much ice buildup there..

Thanks!

Kris you didn't use that roll of duct tape in the picture to mount the step did you? just kidding

Good looking project. I can tell you are going to give the guys some good ideas for projects.
