I think the suggestion for me to restart this thread is a good one so here it goes.

I have seen some home made mixers on the net, 50 gallon barrels, wash tubs. Some electric, some PTO,

But what I have is an interesting option. I have a hydraulic post hole digger that I can set on its side (the control head) and attach a bucket to it. I don't want to mix large quantities, but more than one bag at a time would be good.

My intents is to figure a way to mount a flat plate to the bottom of a barrel or wash tub or whatever other ideas you guys might have, that has a 2"ID pipe on it that will slip onto my post hold digger. I don't plan on having any roller support (as I have seen with some plastic bucket designs).

So I guess what I am getting at is the bucket. How much an a wash tub hold, and how what are some other ideas (Metal barrel as opposed to plastic or just go with plastic, it will be strong enough on its own and not need a cage).

I hope I am making sense on this, it is Friday, long week... looking for ideas on this project.

I produce movies, which means I tell people what to do, I don't do it ;-) So me drawing will be similar to a 2 year old with a box of crayons.

So here are some links to what I am talking about

What my concern is is the size of the barrel and how do I attach it so it doesn't break. After watching the demo video it looks lke 2 bags of crete are about the max these machines can take. I guess a 50 gallon plastic barrel would not be too stressed if attached at the bottom and not supported in the middle other than the mixing blades.

If you put 2 90# bags in a 55 gal drum that is only supported by a 2" pipe at the bottom tilted at a 45* angle there is probably a couple thousand pounds pressure on the pipe!
Ever hear about how a 100# woman can put thousands of pounds pressure on a spike high heel? It's kinda the same physics.
Also the top needs to taper in to keep the mix from slopping out.
The simplest thing is to put two small wheels on the side to support the weight.

Have you thought about looking for an old mixer to start with? I see cheap ones around all the time. If nothing else you can get an up close look at the engineering behind it.
