Wow. What a learning experience and great advice. I wasn't sure what to do but this has helped.
Thanks
Ok first, I added another row of magnets to make them 3 thick or 3/8" and I raised it to 4.5 volts at 220 rpm. The reason I'm using these magnets, is that they are the only magnets readily available. I'll be ordering some from the net. If anyone knows a cheap Canadian supplier. The reason they are gapped is because they will fly off if they get closer since if the same pole is up then they repel at the sides. I have checked and all of the poles are correct. I do believe solid magnets will make a difference. the ones I need are 3"x1"x1" or even 1/2" thick.
I have checked and rechecked the coils for sync. When I made them I made sure they all wound the same way, I marked the inside lead, they are wrapped fairly tight so it seems odd the the first of the three phases on all three sets of coils were reversed phase. I think they may be a little thick at around 3/4".
I have 12 poles and 9 coils, this gives me 3 - 3 phase loops. I have everything hooked in series right now by phase, 3 in phase, to 3 in phase to 3 in phase or 1-4-7-2-5-8-3-6-9 .

Meltdown,

1 thing I notices is the shaft is supported on 1 end. Ideally, it should be supported on both ends to prevent wobble from wind pressure on your turbine. If that's impossible, then a heavier shaft and bearing will help prevent wobble.

I have a large stack of old hard drives, and they contain 2 samarium cobalt magnets. They're unbelievably strong, and very small. Someone sells them on the web. Just look up "samarium cobalt magnets" or "rare earth magnets"

I use to day dream of using those HDD magnets to build an 8' turbine and integrated generator. It would have has many magnets affixed to the outer edge, and a stator with many coils. I went solar instead.

Hey Bob, The setup I have now is temporary for testing. I hold it straight with a hand held bearing for now.
Yes the hard drive magnets are very strong but I believe the rare earth magnets are stronger. Plus I can get more of them, right now I have 108 magnets at 9.1lb each pulling force, 9 mags in 12 rows, giving me about 85 lb/row. If I replace these with 2"x1"x1" Rare Earth Neodymium Iron Boron NdFeB Block Magnet Grade N42, these have a pulling force of 145lb., These are $10 each and I've already spent $108 on my existing magnets. A lot of money for someone unemployed as I am. But important things first right. He He

Here is an update, I have added another row of magnets giving me 12 magnets per row, this gives me 114lb pulling force for each of 12 rows, I also rewound my coils, I went with a smaller core, made them a 1/2 inch thick and I got 98 turns on each coil now, I have removed most of the washers except the ones directly under the coils, now I'm getting some cogging but not a lot so it runs fairly smooth an easily and I've added a drill to turn it for now. I've gotten it up to 6.2 volts at 200 rpm in series and right now I'm getting about 1 volt for every 33 rpm. I'm hoping a second rotor will double the voltage. With the second rotor I'm hopping to get 24 volts at 400 rpm. The more magnets have a direct response and so did the smaller coils with more windings as does the rpm. I think I'm almost ready to add the other rotor and encase the coil and rotors in resin and then mount it. I wound it up to 1500 rpm and when the magnets flew off it smashed my side mirror on my car, some magnets flew over 30'.
Any questions or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks again for all of the previous comments.

I looked at your link, and I can't view any of the videos of the rotor(IE says there is a network error).

I was able to view the video's OK at about 10:40 PM CDT. Temporary glitch???

My firewall had windows media player locked out for some reason... Looks interesting. I always liked the concept of the S rotor. Low speed, high torque, self starting, self regulating, omnidirectional, easy to build and maintain...
