HELLO TO ALL,
the last two days, i was into some serious dirt moving.
although i had my finish mower on the 3pt, and it weighs
550 lbs. it still felt light in the back. my fel bucket is a
1/3 yard, and i have 300 lbs of wheel weights. my machine
is a L3000DT, and is suppose to lift about 1400 lbs on the
3pt. now i am considering making a weight for the 3pt from
concrete. i cu.ft. is suppose to weigh 137 lbs. anyone have
any thoughts on how heavy this weight should be for the
3pt. i would like for it to be heavier than the finish mower,
but by how much? i have seen some post in the past on this
subject, but would not know where to look for them. any help
appreciated.

How about making a form to cast individual weights that could be added to a basic frame with 3-point connections? The weights could besay 200# each. Use the FEL to stack em on the frame. That way you could start at 400# or 600# and and go up from there.

By the way, I've never weighed a chunk to find out, but for the past 24 years as a structural engineer, I've always assumed concrete weighs 150# per cubic foot, at least thats what the books all say. Anybody out there got a piece to measure and weigh? After discussion in some of the other posts, I'm sort of curious.....

My JD 70 loader came with an operator's manual. It addresses the amount of counter-weight to put on the 3pt...and it's more weight than I would have guessed. The manual suggests building some sort of sand container to do the job.

I think your boxblade is a better place to begin. It's often useful to have the boxblade attached when doing loader work anyway. Why not build some sort of additional weight onto it. You won't believe the extra bite additional weight gives your boxblade. I use 5-40lb. suitcase weights on mine. You can buy 'em or build 'em. Scrap steel is cheap...and seems not to have suffered the raise in cost that new steel has...at least at my local scrap yard.

A weight rack also makes a handy place to coil some chain.

By the way, a rough rule of thumb is for the 3pt counter-weight to equal the lift capacity of your loader.
