I am looking at getting a full security system installed in our home this week or next. We have decided to go with CPI Security. I like the systems ability to interact via the intercom system and it also has fire and smoke detectors. I am going with wireless motion and glass breakage detectors, puls the windows and doors standard items. It cost aroud $40-50 per month but I save $20 per month on homeowners insurance.

How many TBNers had a monitored security system in their home? Do you like it and what kind do you have?

Thanks
David

My home used to be a vacation home, so when we built it I wired it for a smart system. We settled on HAI Omni which gives us the freedom of monitoring remotely ourselves in addition to a company monitoring it. We are able to change the thermostat by phone, turn lights on/off, turn off system if a repairman or neighbor has to get in, check outdoor temp and many more.

We also have network cameras that I look at via iPhone or computer when I'm away and they record with motion. The initial cost for all was about $2500 back in '01, and now it's just $20 bucks mo. for the monitoring.

I use FrontPoint. It's a wireless system that was very easy to setup, can monitor on-line, smart phone etc. Price is pretty good - you buy the equipment (not rent).

I know CPI will do all that you have listed. However there are different packages you can purchase. I have the Rep coming by tonight to discuss.

I have a hardwired DSC system. I was selling security, monitoring and camera systems when we built our home 11 years ago. It is monitored and also has smoke detectors on the system. Have it set up so we pay one monitoring fee even though we have a motion detector in the cabin and a system with smoke in my shop, all are wired to the same panel that has partitions (allows the system to act as if it were up to 4 separate systems) so the shop has a keypad with a different code. Also have a recorded camera system, older now but did put in good camera's. :)

What is the response time in your area for LEO and Emergency Responders?

Monitoring data from the security system you plan on installing ends up where?

A national company with centralized storage?
A national company with localized storage?
A local company with....?
???

We have a security system we put in 7 yrs. ago when we built our home...it is hard wired with motion detectors, smoke and fire as well as a panic button..we pay $16 a month for monitoring...we set ours to no delay when we are home and test it frequently..we just call the company and go into test mode with them and test all of the openings and sensors..By them way...the response time is about 20 min...Uhhh !

CPI covers North and South Carolina. With corporate office in Charlotte NC, about 1.5 hours from my home.

I have talked to a couple of people that have CPI in my town and the LEO response time was 10-20 min. I know this would depend on several factors.

Sounds good, have you talked with your local LEO and Emergency Responders on their take?

I know some will not give you their professional opinion, ethics and all that, but a horror story may steer you towards a good company.

Good luck with your process.
