This is a 3 point hay spear that I built. My first iteration was made with 4" c-channel. But, after a couple of bumps, it started bending (should've used heavy wall square tubing, but I had the c-channel laying around). So, I welded on some scrap plate to reinforce it and put a diagonal brace to the spear bracket.
The biggest mistake that I made was underestimating the angle of the top link at full rise. If I raise it all the way, the back of the spear will bend the top link. But, since I'm the only one that uses it, I decided it was more trouble to fix it.
The stabilizer spears are 1" rod.
I used flux core MIG to weld up the original, so that it would have as much strength as possible in the welds. The additional reinforcements were stick welded with 6011 since they wouldn't be taking as much stress as the main body.
The only purchased part was the spear itself, for about $80 and the 3 point links for $4.
