seems like you did a pretty decent job. not sure how much $$$ you saved when you figure in the time envolved. But if you had fun , then it was worth it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You probably saved yourself a few $$. If I remember correctly the toothbar for my BX23 was around $400. You could have saved yourself some welding time though by searching around on Ebay - I have seen the same type of teeth that are typically used for toothbars for sale there for use in making up your own toothbar.

That is one nice looking tooth bar. And I am glad to see that at least one other person has a BX that looks like it used rather than a waxed up thing in the garage.

Ahhmen, jimbrown!!! ... about both the nice homebrewed toothbar and the "working" machine.
Cheers!

Mike,

Nice work.

I pride myself as being a reasonably good welder, but I just don't have the time to fabricate from scratch a toothbar for the price Markham can deliver one to me. I purchased a Markham toothbar and I am not sorry, in fact, I am impressed by the quality of their product. But it looks like you have done at least a comparable job!.

Again, NICE WORK!!!

Looks real useful and certainly is a unique tooth design! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

On my bucket I have grab hooks on the outside and a slip hook in the center. I find I like the grab hooks better than the slip hook, as I can wrap a chain around something and just slip a link in the grab hook and not have to worry about hooking the chain back on itself.

Same with the center slip hook, pass the chain through it and then over and put a link in a grab hook on my side of the bucket and let the excess hang into the bucket.

Nothing wrong with what you have. Just an observation on how useful I have found grab hooks to be with chain... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nice job Mike. I kinda made mine as I bought the teeth and the bar from Binkley and Hurst in PA, then paid a friend $50 to weld it all together. Overall mine cost~$200 including the shipping of the pieces so I saved about $100 at the time. Plus we had a good time putting it together.

Now if I only had a welder myself /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks guys for all the kind comments. It takes some time to put those web pages together and I some times wonder if it's worth it, but all the nice replies you guys have given me tells me it IS worth it.

I gave the toothbar a good workout tonight, moving some piles of dirt around, and leveling off some high spots in my yard. WOW! What a difference a toothbar makes!! It used to take a lot of force to push the bucket into the hard ground, but now I find myself digging out more than I wanted to! Practice...

Hi Mike
What were the lengths of the stepped 1" Bars?
Would you please send me or share with all a sketch with dimensions.
You did a great Job and have inspired me to copy your design. Being copied is a great form of flattery.
Much appreciated.
