My nephew has been digging in the dirt lately, trying to get a spot leveled out for a shed. He was whinning about not having a toothbar, so I decided to make him one! I took and old grader blade bit (county shop was throwing them away) and cut teeth with a chopsaw. I then cut the "valleys" with the torch. I did one like this for a neighbor 5-6 years ago and it is still going strong.

Looks good.
Anything to help break hard dirt is a plus.

Doxhound,

Nice work! It does look good. Funny you should post, I have a 48" back blade and have been thinking along the lines of what you have done. How long are the teeth? And how did you attach the teeth to the bucket? Did you use bolts (as set screws) or is it tack welded? (Do you have anymore pictures?)

Regards, Mark

The teeth are 2 1/2" wide and 3" long. I cut them from the "but" side so I could still use the holes to attach it to the bucket. Right now, I just have 1/2" bolts holding it to the bucket, but will get some Plow Bolts this weekend. I didn't want it to be a pemanent attachment, so didn't weld it.
Those grader bits a tough - almost indestructable! I am going to cut some holes into my back blade so I can mount it up there also. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Doxhound,

Thank you, I have a pretty good idea of what to do...Afraid it's going to be a "Dox Knock Off" as I can't think of a way to do it any better /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

That looks a lot like the one I made. Sure does make it easier to dig out the honeysuckle that's trying to take over the side yard.
