yanmar 1610D
hello... had a stub axle nut come loose on my 1610d. after pulling everything, I found the gears inside the lower and upper knuckle are in bad shape. looks like the knuckle held water in it for a looong time. These gears are unavailible according to hoye. rest of the parts needed are availible with the ecception of a sleeve and a couple of shims.($400.00 worth ) But, I question using them with the old gears.

Part# 194158-13950 splined gear for upper knuckle.
Part# 194158-14120 gear for end of stub axle.

Anyone out there that can supply these gears? New or salvage?

The old gears are not chipped but are worn/pitted pretty bad. (rounded ends on teeth) Anyone had success/longevity with repairing an axle with worn gears? Thought about checking with machine shop to fabricate new ones suspect it would cost big$$$. will do that as last resort. Purchased the tractor about a month ago. rest of the tractor appears solid. Bought as used from a john deer dealer reciept says used eguip has no warranty.

Thanks for your help/replies. Bob.

Update....hoye came up with the gears for me, (at a decent price ) so my problem with the worn gears is solved. Hope this dosen't set a precedent for my 1610d. I have already had to lay out a grand on it and haven't been able to use it yet! lol.

I paid 3200 for it. (4200 now) It has a koyker 80 loader on it that has not been used much judging on the cosmetics. The manuf dates on the loader are late 2006. the rest of the tractor seems solid it has 1035 hrs showing on meeter. Front tires on it were wrong size. may have contibuted to front axle prob. funny thing, the right side knuckle is perfect but the left was shot.

Great site! had a reply to my post in about an hr. Lots of good info and links here. The 1610D is my first tractor, so I am sure I will appreciate this site even more in the future. Keep hang'in guys, glad to meet you. Bob.

$4200 would still be a decent price, even without the loader.

Thanks for the welcome... After deciding to get a tractor & narrowing the choice down to a yanmar as being the best size & bang for my limited bucks, it was off to the hunt. You know, when you spend a couple of months or so on the web looking up everything you can about yanmar's. A couple of sites always stand out from the rest.

Imo, This yanmar forum is the best on the web. From yanmar owners: a balance of good practical information + problem resolution + conversation. Throw in the dealer's and part houses that monitor this forum for sales and their willingness to help with troubleshooting & It just dosen't get much better.

After scaning thru about all of the pages of posts here trying to learn about the capabilities, limitations, what to look for, what to avoid, how to use & take care of a yanmar ect, You soon feel like you know everybody.

lol, after being armed with all the above, I still managed to buy a broke tractor. Oh well, gives me a chance to get up close and personal with the tractor.

After deciding to go ahead and replace all the left side gears & most of the other parts from the differential on down, plus a couple of new front tires, manuals, and a voltage regulator, I'm out a little over $1500. So i've got 4700+ in the tractor now. Still a decent price and it should be in solid shape when I'm done.

I will take some pics of the tractor and the repair and post them later from my son's broadband connection. Our 26.4kbs dial up here is just too slow for that. Who knows..A little seat time & I might be able to contribute something positive to this forum. Thanks again for the welcome.

Bob.
