I came across this video LiveLeak.com - Massive kick to face by horse

Part of the report said "the disoriented horse kicked out with his back leg, catching her in the face, as she fell." I can't see how they can claim the horse was disoriented; it's pretty obvious he looked at her, spun around and deliberately kicked her in the head. I would like to ask this: Would you keep this horse around if it were yours?

Luke would be a gourmet dinner on some Frenchman's plate if he belonged to me. I'm betting this guy will perform similarly in the future...so they shouldn't be surprise, having been forewarned.

FWIW, our local newspaper used to reprint old editions from 100 years ago. Almost every edition had an obituary of some unfortunate soul who was killed or a report of someone seriously injured by a horse. The majority of injuries seemed to be from being kicked; others from being rolled on, stomped or stepped on. Horses do that; yeah, they do.

The horse was obvioulsly mad before this happened. Not enough video to see what really happened. You can't tell what she did to the horse before and or if happened all the time.

I suspect a case of misbehaved horse getting away with bad behavior and an untrained owner letting it get worse. And who knows what the previous owner did to the horse. I bet the sucker bites also.

I agree. I wouldn't keep it around if it did that more than once because we have a 3 year old and I don't want a horse that cant be trusted if the 3 year old does something foolish. Without the 3 year old in the picture, if this was a holdover from a previous owner or something I would work through it. Not a training expert, but I know people who are and I have spent my fair share of time around horses.

That is one dangerous horse. As Mace said, you can see he lined her up and made the decision to kick her. There's no fear involved (in which case it would be more acceptable). He just wanted out of there on his terms.

I had a similar incident once while looking for a new horse. The owner demo'd a 3 year old gelding for me in his arena. I was there with a trainer and we noticed it he had a cranky attitude. The owner trotted him around and he would fuss when sparrows flitted around the rafters, even though he'd been trained in that arena. Then we put some poles flat on the ground for him to trot over. Each time the horse would go over the flat pole he'd pin his ears. Not scared--just annoyed.

The owner had him warmed up and invited me to try him. He stood fine as I went to mount. As soon as he felt my left foot in the stirrup he took off, straight at the arena wall. I did not have time to get my right leg over. He went flat-out, straight at the wall. As we got to the wall he made a 90 degree turn, flinging me against it and almost breaking my hip (I could hardly walk for days). But the worst of it, which I didn't see but my trainer told me--he bucked as he ran away. That's a dangerous horse.

I don't mind inexperienced or willful horses that occasionally act up. But scheming ones aren't worth it.

But as Jimbrown says, we don't know the whole story.

Before I make a comment, I want everyone to know that I love Horses. BUT. Rest assured if that had been my Wife, Daughter, Son, or any of our 4 Grandchildren, I wouldn't hesitate, even for a Second. I would kill the Horse, then and there, right away.No second guessing.

If memory serves me, Jim Shoulders had a brother that was kicked in the head. You didn't hear much about him after that, but it was said that he suffered severe brain damage.

IMHO, all horses are potentially dangerous at the hands of the unknowing. As far as that goes, so are cattle and goats.

Trust is an important factor with any animal....I would not trust that horse. I would get rid of that horse immediately.

Id say he kicked because of the loose reins whipping around his left side.
