I have always been a "horse trader". If I see something on Craigs or at an estate sale or an auction that I believe is under priced, I get it, if I can. It has to be something of interest to me, something I might even keep, no matter what I could re-sell it for. Most of the stuff in my shop and in my barn has been procured this way. I get a much bigger kick of of getting stuff this way over just buying new things. I don't know, it's fun, I guess.

There a chain of actions and re-actions too, that I enjoy.
Got this little JD for free. It wasn't running. I went through it. Tuned it up, cleaned it up, rebuilt the carb, balanced the blade and the little guy ran, well, like a Deere. Nice Kaw engine. Waited over the winter and craig listed it and got $300. Did pretty good on that.

Then, I picked up this RFM. Tried in the yard, off my BX and decided no way. Too big for my spaces. It ran great and worked well. I got it off a guy who couldn't use it after only an hour of use. Yes, it is Dark Horse absolute copy of the KK. Ran another Craigs listing on it and sold it for $100 profit. I kinda figured i could. Did alright on that too.

Took that $400, along with another $200 and answered a Craigs listing today. It is an MTD mower. I know their level of quality, but honestly, they do run OK for a few years and an old we had my son beat the stuffing out of it for 7 years and it still ran OK. Anyhow, this is the top of the MTD Yard Machines line. 17.5 hp B&S, 42" deck, etc.
A really, really good, special sale price on this mower is $1000 plus $60 tax. Normal list is closer to $1300. Here's the kicker.

It's brand new. Fella used it twice. I'm sorry about folks losing their jobs and I take no joy in that, but stuff happens and when it does, people sell off stuff in a panic.
Got this today for $600. Actually, through horse trading, it only cost me $200 out of pocket. Yup, it's fun.

I can not pass up a good deal either... but I have a hurtle to get over when it comes time to sell. Been selling small stuff and the next time up at the farm, I plan to bring back several items to get rid of... I don't think I can get another bargain pass the wife, if I don't start to sell some of it.

I find some of the prices amazing (both high and low). I only go after the really good prices and sometimes offer more then they were asking....

Yeah, it has only taken a few years, hmmm.... 38 or so, for her to understand what I do. She still says, "what do you want THAT for?" Nope, they don't necessarily "get" it, but the selling part, yes. That seems to help understanding to dawn, although, I do get asked, "so, why are you selling that?" "Didn't you just buy it?" It helps keep a marriage from getting boring.
