What do Manufacturers do to get more HP out of the same size engine? JD uses a 179 cu in block from 42-74 HP in the 5003 series and Kubota uses the same size block for the M6040-M7040

More fuel and turbo charging are 2 ways.

more fuel
more air, cooler air
camshaft type
altering bore and stroke
compression ratio
Piston design
combustion cylinder design
changing allowable rpm
changing the materials rotating and moving parts are made of
flywheel weight
And so many more I'm not aware off

It doesn't take much to upgrade hp in a stock diesel engine. My old dodge 6-cyl diesel went from 250 hp to over 400 hp with just larger injectors, larger fuel pump, and a remapped ECU. I highly doubt they do any major internal changes, they can get away with just more fuel and air. Also by using the same block, pistons, crank, etc... they can increase productivity on the line.

In MOST cases, they START with the high end of the spectrum, and lower (de-tune) HP outputs to achieve lower ratings.

Less fuel/air. In some cases, smaller injectors/injector pumps/cam/compression.

Over the years, Massey Ferguson used the AD152-3 Perkins 3-cylinder on various models of tractors. It came with HP ratings from 35 to 57. All that was done was raise RPM's and fuel screw settings on injector pump along with air intake capabilities.
