i have a 1974 B-6000(original owner).I bought a 40" tiller
and i was thinking i needed a little more power.I had the motor checked and it was still in specs.I contacted Michigan Turbo and now I have a Turbo powered B-6000.
It is not hard to do,since all the pluming is pipe(exhaust and intake).Pulled oil off the head(the oil pressure senser)
and dump it back in the oil pan(the hardest thing to have modified).I run 5psi boost, but have run higher(10psi).
It cost me about $1500 to do,but now I have the hottest B-6000 around.Fell free to contact me on this tractor(B-6000).
I have a broad knowledge of this tractor and would be glad to help on any problem or modification.Contact me at bigboyup@alltel.net

bigboy4884,
Wouldn't have the B6000 handle the 40" tiller just fine.

So how much hp are you pushing?

I think it is now putting out about 18 to 20 H.P.It will now pull a 16" plow. And,yes it did pull the tiller, but with
the added gear box and tiller it would lug in virgin soil.
I also added a tachometer and bumped up the top governed speed,Kubota said it would handle it.It has been like this for 2 yrs and no problems.I added a hour meter in 1976 it has 3244 hrs on it.I run Castrol 20-50wt synthetic oil in it.It has 80psi oil pressure at start up and will hold 40 psi all day.

bigboy,
I know on some older turbo tractor or setups they are a booger to start when the temp goes -0,do you think that you may have a small starting problem or it may load up when trying to start during cold weather.

What rpm's are you planing to run at,and did you increase you coolant?

Sorry about all the questions for I'm interested.

I did see B5100 engine and the trans being beef up by a sevice man at my Kubota dealer last summer.
He was going to enter B5100 in the small diesel tractor pulls, /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gifand he was going to spend some $$$.

I live in Alabama, cold starting is not a problem.
the govener is now set at 4200rpm.And i have had no cooling problems(even on 90+ days).I use header rap on the exhaust tubing, including the turbo. If anything, the motor runs cooler now.(the exhaust runs by the radiator in stock form)I also found a fan that blows backwards(through the radiator)(came off a toyota air conditioner)I re-drilled the bolt pattern and that gets the heat off the motor.
I have found out that the motor really likes the extra air
from the turbo and doesnt have to work as hard now.
The best thing I like is the sound of the turbo spooling up
(the manufacter spec. sheet said it will operate at 120,000
rpm)and the motor turning at 3800 to 4000 rpm.

Sure sounds like you have a poer plant on your hands.
Just one more question I promise.
Did you have step up your exhaust system in anyway also fuel lines?

no,on both accounts. the fuel system is more than big enough.
on the blow by side:I have a 1" exhaust pipe
on the turbo side: I have a 1.5" exhaust pipe
the original was 1.25"
I have measured the EGT and it runs between 750 & 800F
the exhaust outlet is around 500F(shows that the piping and turbo are
matched right). Stock temp might have been 350F

A Kubota Hot Rod, interesting idea. I think that is the first compact, out side of tractor pulls, I have heard of with a turbo charger. Keep us posted.

i am working on recording a sound file of the engine at full bore(with the lovely turbo wine)(its sounds like a big cat under a load).
keep in mind that this is not for tractor pulls, just every day farming.
the engine is only 35 c.i. and a 2 cyl at that,factory h.p. is 12.5 with a jake brake

I own a considerably less exciting and powerful (standard) B-6000 4WD. As you have considerable knowledge of the B-6000 can you recommend which aftermarket front end loader can be readily mounted on the B-6000?

Thank you.
