What is it with HT covers? I just had to buy another new one, this is the 3rd cover in less than 10 years. They, over time, get totally waterlogged no matter what I try to do. I even kept the last one and tried to dry it out but after months and months it never dried out ever.

While the new cover is awesome, and only weighs a few pounds, for the price I wish they would use a closed cell foam or something.

Anybody have any tips?

NOTE: The covers I get are styrofoam in a sealed plastic bag inside a heavy vinyl cover.

Does the vinyl have a zipper so you can take the cover off? Maybe make your own panels out of closed-cell foam and put the cover on?

Hey Valley, I ordered this one on line and saved about $150. The company I used is Canadian only but shop around as you may beat the local spa store price.

I had the same problem, water logging and the vinyl fell apart. I think I got mine at the spadepot, dont remember for sure. The quality was much better than the original, and the shipping was free...Saved about $150 on that alone.

Reviving an old thread
I had never had a hot tub, don't know if I want one, but the house I bought came with a 7' x 7' hot tub in good condition except for the 500 lbs of water soaked foam top insulation, which broke up when my friend removed it. The vinyl is in good condition.

The online spa cover places I looked didn't sell the foam separately (plus there would be shipping) and they were $270 UP..
My cheap thinking is to accurately cut up some of that 2" insulafoam (about $40 to cover the top twice), glue it so I had 4 pieces 4" thick by 3.5' x 3.5', slide them into 4 heavy duty garbage bags and toss them under the vinly snap on cover. So for about $45 I'm done.
Comments?

Try it! Might help to carefully wrap or bag the foam in plastic.

We are doing ok on our second cover. One side is starting to get heavy though, kinda weird... We have had our spa almost 13 years now.

The original cover actually lasted really well, till we got a German Shepherd. Only thing she ever chewed was that cover... Other wise it had not gotten too heavy yey, and the vinyl was in good shape.

I say try it. I agree that putting it into a sealed bag of some sort is a good idea though.
