I went with a new water heater. Made for a longer repair time since I had to move some copper pipes to fit the new taller hot water heater.

I'm glad we did it. My wife and I had gotten used to turning the tap all the way open to take a shower and waiting a few minutes between showers. Now we can shower together as long as we want . . . whoops. . . . wrong discussion board.

We bought our first house in 1971, and the plumbing inspection sticker said in was originally inspected in the fall of 1969. We sold the house in 2002 and it still had the original electric water heater. I had wrapped it in an insulating blanket, and turned the thermostats down to 120 degrees, and only flushed it once when it was about 4 years old. As far as I know it's still there. The city water there left a slimy residue in the pipes, maybe that protected the inside of the heater. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The high pressure blow-off valve on my current electric water heater leaked once shortly after it was installed in our new house. Since it was under warranty, they replaced the valve. A couple months ago, it started leaking again after I released the pressure so I could replace my anode rod. This time I gave it a little whack on the end with my rachet and it stopped leaking. Just a little tap, not a full swing. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bubba,

I wish they made appliances like they used to... I can't even get a TV to last 10 years anymore.

Shhhhhh! I have a 17 year old Magnavox 52 inch projection TV that still thinks it's new, and I'm not gonna tell it any different. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
