I have a question on changing the oil based on the hour meter. My new tractor is a kioti dk 50 that has an hour meter that runs in real time as compared to my Massey gc tractor that runs the hour meter based on engine rpm. I hit 100 hours way faster on my Klioti vs my Massey. Yeah I know oil changes are cheap insurance but it seems that the the Kioti could go to 150 hrs especially since I run synthetic.

Have your oil tested. then decide

I think I am going to that so I can get a baseline for 100 hrs of operation.

While it's in warranty do as they say and keep records. Cheap insurance.

diamond pilot advice well taken. 100 hrs on a new tractor (1st change?) i'd surely change the oil for the 1st time at 100 then go by analysis after that to estab. baseline. a no brainer for me...trying to squeeze out a few hrs on a new engine for the 1st change to me is counter productive. 100 hrs on a real time meter is 100 hrs. (esp on a new machine) there are those who would argue (real time vs rpm based meter based has been discussed recently) just my own bias

True, according to the manual it should of been changed at 50 hours.

First and second change has already been done. Going on my third change.

I have heard of owners changing oil at two hundred using synthetic oils but changing filters a 100 hours between.

Think it really depends on your engine. The oil in our 12.5 kw Isuzu diesel generator is still almost crystal clear after about 2 1/2 years but only about 35-40 hours of operation.

On our 240D, its oil would get absolutely as black as black ink almost immediately after an oil change. I let it go for 5-6k miles on synthetic but went only 3k miles on dino oil.

On our Jetta TDI, there have been on lubrication issues using 10k mile oil changes on it; so, that's what I use. 10k on it comes up about once/year, the other criteria they say.

On my JD diesels, I change their synthetic oil once/year, typically about 70 hours. Could get by without diesel rated oil doing this because diesel rating is just to give it more soot handling capability. Can typically get 0w30 non diesel rated. That's what I used in the 4010 after it was off warranty. The 1025 is still on warranty. I'll probably change to the 5w30 Castrol like I used in the TDI this year, which would even fit the warranty.

If the oil on your engine doesn't show very dark after a year, I'd go longer. Could get it tested, but you may have trouble finding where to get this done.
