This is the first ever pic I've posted, so I hope it turns out.

Picture is of the next 8 months of my life. Currently I am forming footings. The tractor in the pic is not mine.

This is the basement excavation for the addition. The slab to the right is the old garage which I've torn down (actually pulled down with the tractor--very fun). The white pipe coming up out of the hole is the sump for dewatering. In fact due to the massive rains I've wound up over excavating and that tractor is on about 18" of clean stone.

The short white pipe out the side of the house is the septic line to the new mound system I finished in July. Just underneath that, you can see the 4" black perforated drain I installed on the side and front of the existing house footings. This will continue along the new footings.

I'm trying to keep a photo log of the project, but its tough to stop and take pics. The wife is busy with our 1 year old.

By the way this isn't Montana, I need to update the profile.

Thought this would be interesting as there have been a lot of discussions lately on foundation drains and concrete pouring.

Last pic. This is an odd condition adjacent to existing basement. Exist basement is 6', the addition will be 8'. I didn't want to undermine the basment as it is sitting on rock, so I'm forming a knee wall for the transition. In the end I'll finish it as a built in bench for the game-room.

Either you have a very tiny tractor or you've dug a big hole.

That's quite a project to undertake. I'm looking forward to following the adventure.

Was the hole dug with the tractor in the pictures?

No,

I had rented a track excavator to build my septic mound. I had to rent it for a whole week but only needed it for 4 days with the mound. I dug the basement the last day I had the excavator, and of course we had massive rains that day so I was digging by feel through 2 feet of water -- thats why I'm overexcavated.

I've used that Yanmar to widen the ramp down, muck out the bottom after rains, and load in the two loads of stone. Getting the tractor up on the two front wheels sure puts hair on your chest.

I need to get a loader for my Kubota, because borrowing this is getting old.
