Mark

They are 12 metres (40ft) long 600mm (2ft) flat sides, x6 equals 12ft or 3.6mt diameter.

I'm trying to pose this question in a way that doesn't sound stupid. I know what tar is and I know what epoxy paint is. What is, or is the purpose of, epoxy tar? Why would you want an epoxy tar rather than an epoxy paint?

WELLaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamaybe I am stupid, I don't know its just what everyone with houseboats downunder does. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Maybe someone could tell me why it's used.

It might be one of them deals where someone years ago had a batch of bad epoxy paint to get rid of and decided to slap it on their boat. Or they did such a crappy paint job that they came up with "epoxy tar" to explain it in the best possible light and everybody else figured that they knew what they were doing so it has become common practice. Or they used to tar them and now they paint them but they still call it "tar". Like putting down PVC drain "tile". Have you figured out yet that I'm really bored this morning? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ah, your pics bring back memories. Lots of satisfaction in making your own. Say, is Lock Crowther still designing down there? He was a major designer 25-30 years ago. Did ocean going multi-hulls. Built a trimaran myself 25+ years ago. Sailed with some of Lock's designs. I got blasted out of the water. Anyway, just wondered if you've heard of him and whether he's still around. Good luck with your project-wait till it slides in the water the first time. Great feeling knowing you did it yourself.

There is a lot of pleasure that comes with a houseboat! Attached is a picture of mine as it was when I bought it a few years ago. It's built on a 22'x50' steel barge and is not powered.

This picture shows what it looks like today after a complete rebuild of the "house" portion.
