Trying to cut off the existing hose ends and attach new ones that have a 37* angle for use with a torque tube bulkhead. Don't know what to use to get a clean cut on the braided Gates 3/8" hose. Use Sawzall on first hose, and can't get the 2 part field fitting to screw onto the hose, probably because the hose is not perfectly round. I've tried using an abrasive wheel on an air driven tool to campher the leading edge, so the outer part of the fitting can thread onto the hose; no luck so far.
My questions are: what to use to cut the remaining hose, and what to do/use to get the new two part compression like two part fittings to screw onto the existing hoses?

TIA,

CM

CM,

Our field attachable fitting assembly instructions are in this catalog http://www.eaton.com/ecm/groups/public/@pub/@eaton/@hyd/documents/content/pct_479318.pdf on page 319. Should be similar to Gates hose. We sell two types of field attachable fittings. One type requires a mandrel to assist nipple insertion in the hose tube. If that's the type fitting you have it is nearly impossible to assemble without a mandrel. I'd extract the page if I could because the download is 30+ MB but the link is free.

The best way to cut the hose (rubber covered) is to use a hacksaw with slow smooth strokes so the wire braid is not dislocated and frayed prior to assembly. A sawzall might be quick but it will break the hose carcass apart and fray the wires.

I've used a lot of these reusable fittings. Did it just like kennyd shows in his tutorial above. I use a socket on an air powered ratchet wrench to screw the inner part in. Saves a lot of effort if you're doing very many. You have to lube everything well and flush and blow the hose out when you're done.

Thanks all for your replies. I think from Kenneyd's tutorial it is clear I've been trying to screw the collar piece onto the hose clockwise instead of counterclockwise. Who knew? No instructions came with the fittings, but now I know what to do thanks to you guys.
I can't use a socket for the barbed inner part since the fitting has an angle to attach to my bulkhead, but thanks for the tip.
I can't go to a different fitting type at this point of the process, but with a cleaner cut and screwing the collar in the counterclockwise direction I stand a better chance of success.
I will clean the hose inside and out and lube it well and report back results.
