It is amazing what you can do with one of these. I was running one of these

to tear up a concrete pad. Sure beats a manual jack hammer.

The loader is handy for two reasons:
1) You can manuver very quickly so grabing a bucket full and spining around to dump in a truck or trailer is very fast. You can move material much faster than with a tractor.
2) You are right there looking at the lip of the bucket. No problem to pickup a rock since you can see the bucket lip completely. On tractors the hood often gets in the way of the view.

The bad part is you need to be careful not to trun it over. You can make very radical manuvers that will just about flip you over even on relatively flat ground.

Also they are not as stable on steep ground as a tractor. Thats why they load them on trailers backwards.
Keeps you from ending up on your back.
