I'm just finishing the clean up for leak of NH bat and installed new plate (among many other parts and hours). The Optima 34R Interstate sold me won't fit between the clamps. It's too narrow by fractions of inches, and the clamps are too tall for the bat's narrow lip. It would slop left and right even if the clamps were low enough to catch that lip.
I read several posts on mods on other model NH tractors ; but not 40D. One required removing the plate and crushing tabs. Nice work but 40D has different plate design and I'd like to make use of the tabs and ideally the clamps too with some mods that don't require me to remove the nice new plate again. Removal requires undoing the lower radiator bolts, removal of the castle nut cotter pins and fighting with the tranny cooler pipes and I've done it four times this week.
Any hardware out there that works? At this point I'm OK with giant tie wraps.
Thanks.

Mike: Thanks for the excellent website, photos and solutions for the bracket and many other projects I'd like to do with my TC40D SS.
I haven't welded since 1969 but probably should gear up before someone disses me for having a tractor but not a welder.
What do you recommend? Mig, Tig, Argon, and mixed gas were some options mentioned by NAPA yesterday, enough to make my head swim, some require opening an account with a welding gas suplier. I better think multi project.
By the way; I had to dismount/remount the 758C backhoe bucket Friday and a wheeled dolly with adjustable height and angle would have streamlined the job. It would be the thing for swapping bucket for ripper for stumping.

Thanks for the compliments on the web site, I appreciate that.

My suggestion is that you visit the Hobart Welding forum and ask your welding questions there, as I'm no professional. In my case years ago I was offered a Tombstone AC unit for a song-and-a-dance so I couldn't refuse it. It has done just about everything that I have thrown at it but I find it much more forgiving on thicker steel than the thinner stuff where a MIG or TIG might be better suited.
