How amazing technology has come to tractors

Could you ever imagine that one day somebody in N.C. could work on your tractor and pull information out of the air to fix a broken tractor. Pretty soon all we'll have to do is set our phone on the dash and we'll be able to do all the diagnosing and trouble shooting ourselves. Amazing.[/QUOTE said:
Then after the warranty period expires and you need help to reboot the computer. Tech remotes in to the tractors main control board. Resets some parameters back to factory specs, also checks other parameters. Finds something that isn't quite up to factory specs. Starts checking software in other areas.
Next thing, the work that was authorized under warranty is now not. Because of owner or mechanic setting different parameters in the software, the company says you voided the warranty. A BIG bill will be in your mailbox shortly.
A big green company says you don't own the technology, but you can own it for a price!

Car companies are the same. If you put a tune in your new chevy, ford ,or dodge they can tell on the newest models and may choose to not honor that part of the warranty as they should.

They don't make them for you to experiment with on their dime.

Subaru, I'm good with my extra 90hp.

Ford is now selling ECU tunes on the Mustang.

If I wanted to work on tractors I would have been a tractor mechanic. Electronics makes vehicles better and last longer.

How many cars from the 70s or earlier went 200,000 miles with no engine work? You can buy a used car now with 100,000 miles that cranks right up in the mountains or the valley in any temperature and it feels and drives like new.

Every hour you work on an old, broken tractor is an hour of your life that ls lost and wasted. Same with an old car.

If you hate electronics please throw your remote away and change the TV the old fashion way!

Well I do have a degree in electronics and 30 + years in the industry  and have had 2 cars so far that Did have CPU/ECM failures... also on others-TPS, MAF, MAP, Idle air controller, O2 sensors and on and on

And I enjoy working on and restoring Muscle cars , Motorcycles also repairing classic stereo equipment and even tractors...

Gee- Sorry guys that get their hands dirty working on older equipment - offends YOU

I don't hate new vehicles ... or tractors-
and will be either rebuilding or replacing an engine on my sons newly acquired Grand Cherokee with blown engine , But - I doubt it will be as easy to access remove or work on than an old JEEP... Maybe looking into buying a hybrid car in the future to because I do appreciate technology.

My point was there is also something to be said for very simple machines.

Mass has pending legislation on "Digital Right to Repair." We wrote letters in favor as we have one shop repair three different brands of company cars.
