How are fuel pumps rebuilt?

I own a john deere 950 and had the fuel pump rebuilt a few years back. It may sound stupid and this may not be the right place to post this and if so I understand deleting it and or moving or removing it. I was just curious as to what rebuilding one of the fuel pumps entails I noticed that all the paint was gone and it looked nice and shiny but what else do they do? Does anyone have any video links to youtube that might show the process. Just trying to learn a little. Again sorry if this is the wrong place for this or is not allowed. Thanks for any help in understanding.

I think you mean rebuilding of an "Injection Pump" and not fuel pump, although to a minor degree, they too can be rebuilt.

There are a few videos on YouTube about rebuilding them. It depends on your degree of confidence. I had an interesting Diesel Tech training. The old duffer that I had was GREAT, and I respected the man immensely. He was old school, and really taught us the internals of a diesel engine, but when it came to the injection pumps, his thought process was simple: send it out to be rebuilt!

He died of a hear attack part way through that year, so the remainder of that year, and the next, we had a younger instructor, and he was like, "Hogwash, you students are just as capable as anyone else", so he showed us how to rebuild them.

I think the industry gets a great personal satisfaction convincing people the level of proficiency to rebuild them is just plain unobtainable, but I do not see it that way at all. Try your best and see. Go slow and do a lot of research. Today there is plenty of information on this stuff. If I can do it, anyone can that is for sure.
