I got a soil test done before diving into growing anythng... "less than optimum" is plastered all over the report.

Lime index:69
Ph: 5.5
Phosphorous :17ppm
Potassium:24ppm
Magnesium: 20 ppm

Recommended 2 tons/A dolomite lime and 100 lbs per acre Nitrogen

Ya, your Ph isn't good. You want to be closer to 7. My experience is that without adding lime to get the acidity out of the soil you will just throw money away on seed and fertilizer. By the way it takes awhile for the lime to do it's job.

If you are looking at seeding clovers or alfalfa, best wait until you get the pH up to a minimum of 6.2 to 6.5. Grass hay does not need to be quite as high before seeding, but does help if it is up there too. If legumes have not been grown in the field before, you may want to inoculate the seed also when you do plant for better nitrogen fixing. Good luck.
