How big a disc can a Jubilee pull?.....I know it depends on weight and soil, but a 6 foot box frame??????? Or should I stay with a 5 foot.

I may get a bigger tractor this year, and if the Jubilee can pull it then I'd like to go with 6...what say you?

6-6.5' disc, and it should lift it too, if you have enough front ballast.

many of those ahve adjustable gangs and if it pulls too hard, adjust for less cut.

if non adjustable gangs and pulls too hard, remove ballast from the disc.. etc.

once you get it cut in and fluffy, it should pull much easier on subsequent cuts.

Great news.....now where do I get the ballast and where do I hang it? On the front bumper?

Yeah, if the front of the tractor is too light when carrying the disc.

In my area it's fairly easy to find cast iron weights from various brands of tractors. Modify your front bumper to carry whatever weights you find. I prefer suitcase weights myself.

you can hang weight on the bumper, get wheel weights and load the front tires to help with lifting the disc.

for cutting, you just add weight tot he disc itself. some people stack blocks on it. lay logs on it.. etc. doesn't have to be fancy.

you may find that you need to load the rear tires too, to get weight for traction.

you can even cast concrete weights in buckets and tubs to add weight where you can. leave bolts or hangers sticking out to hang them on the bumper.. etc.

Grew up on a hobby farm with a Ford jubilee running a 6.5' disc. Pulled it in 3rd gear most of the time. Also pulled a 16" two bottom plow in 2nd gear. Great little tractor. We farmed between 10-25 acres for 30 years.

I'm using a six footer with my 631 (same HP as your jub) I have also used a 6.5' in the past. The 6.5 on the 8n was a little light in the front with out wheel weights in the front. My 631 does have bumper weight so it's not a problem.
