I am working in Pilbara, Western Australia. Seems to me that the cars have much larger fuel tanks than the US version.
First picture shows amount of fuel to top the tank when it was initially only about half full.
The second picture shows why.

118 l = 31 gal
632 km = 393 miles

I;m confused! Are the tanks larger cause it gives you something to drink if you run out of water????:confused2:

You can live without fuel but not without water. The sign means that there is no service station (gas station) or in fact inhabited place for 630 km. If you have car trouble or accident you should have enough water so you can survive until somebody drives around. And I tell you there is not much traffic and the summer temperatures are close to 120F.
The place is big like US from Mississippi east and inhabited something like 50000 people. That is the reason of emphasis on water instead of fuel.

My Explorer is about 80L bone dry. Good for 600Km on the hwy. The bigger suv's are in the 110 to 140L range.

I recall renting a Pathfinder for work and it had a tiny tank with a range of only 400Km. I wound up carrying two jerry cans in the back so that I didn't get stranded.

Hmm, for our Grand Cherokee I would have to carry few jerry cans. 75 litres gets me - say - 350 km with a reserve.

632 km = 392.706 mi.

I think most vehicles can go 400 miles but that would be cutting it close

I have a 06 dodge ram 2500 diesel and regular see drive to empty 750+ miles on it with a full tank. but last fill up was $110.00 and change and I wasen't empty fuel was $4.29 a gallon.

The tank in my 2011 Ram 3500 diesel is 52 gallons, it is a cab chassis model that I had the platform-dump bed put on. I don't know yet how far it will go on a tank of fuel, it only has about 270 miles on it, but it's going to hurt the day I have to fill it up. :p

To get a rough conversion of km's to miles, multiply km's by 0.6, 100 km = 60 miles.
Dave.

There are/were some US trucks/SUVS with fuel tanks that would be downright SILLY anywhere but suburban USA.

Built for ....err, kinda difficult to understand, maybe cruising the ice cream stands on a summer's evening, or clubs and bars ?
Too fancy to make dump runs with, or actually pick up lumber and scratch the bed (-:

There are also some downright WEIRD looking machines on two wheels that have tear drop shaped fuel tanks - perhaps a (US small) gallon or so ?
They have LOUD engines with little/no power, but displacement comparable to a 4 cylinder car.
GO figure..... it can't be about GETTING anywhere.

My truck has a nominal 50 gallon capacity, but that comes from a silly little standard tank of about 23 (small) gallons and an optional tank of about 27 gallons.
Diesel, so without a trailer or heavy load I'm good for about 1,000 miles of GENTLE highway cruising at moderate speed, 700 or so of trailering.

My 1993 Chevy Suburban has a 42 gallon tank and a 350ci engine. I have gone over 700 miles on one tank, averaging about 18mpg on the highway. I try to fill it when it hits half a tank, though, just to lessen the shock at the pump! A hundred bucks will buy a lot of Snickers bars. :licking:

DANG, them is BIG Kilometers, bigger than any I have ever seen (-:

Now, there are US gallons and Imperial gallons, but I know NOTHING of GIANT kilometers.
My 32 Km are usually closer to 20 Miles.

Prove me wrong, I have a thirst for knowledge.
