How big is your bumper?

Picture shows standard (not after market) front heavy duty bumper on our car. You can really hit something (like kangaroo) without damage to the car. It has a mount for a winch able to lift the car from the ground hanging on the bumper.
Passenger cars, trucks, buses have similar bumpers.

Kangaroos - silly looking things

It is nice and heavy looking, but it also looks like it would encourage animals to pop over the hood and into the windshield. Save the front-end and maim the passengers isn't a winning strategy, especially where moose roam.

I dont have pic of current one on truck but these are what we run on our trucks and have hit small cars trees and a few deers and have always held up well.

I am on short assignment in Australia outback. So far I didn't have a chance to actually test the bumper performance. But in Iowa every single vehicle we owned in past 25 years hit a deer. Event the motorcycle. I definitely think such bumper would prevent a lot of damage.

Well, I'm sure they do but I would pick something more vertical like powerstroke's guard. Yours looks like it is raked back, and that can act as a ramp on impact.

It is an ARB bumper. They are an aftermarket supplier. Maybe the dealer put it on, but Toyota didn't.

I think you can get a discount on your insurance by having one of those installed on your car.
Marsupial damage can be a b!tch and it raises your rates.

When I was last down there, <bad word> near everything had a heck of a bumper on it. Even smal sedans.

Now we were out in the middle of the NT where wildlife out numbers people by a long margin.

If you drive at night you _ARE_ going to hit wildlife. Bad enough that most contractors aren't even authorized to have cars.

The busses that move people about have huge roo guards, and metal mesh over the windscreen. They hit wildlife a few times a week. But the bumpers/mesh makes it a pressure washer clean up job, rather than replace parts.

Well, this doesn't protect anything, but it sure helps when scraping the ice off the windshield. And a place to put tools etc. Comes in handy camping too.
