Tractor Sizing How big of a difference is HP in a CUT?

I would pay the extra money. My TC40 DA is 33 HP PTO and the Boomer 8N is 40 HP PTO. That is a 20% difference and you can tell the difference with the 6' cutter or tiller. As was also mentioned the extra weight will be of benefit. I usually don't run out of HP but starting spinning tires. Also the extra weight will not allow the cutter to push you around as much.

Another thought is that the 24 hp tractor is kind of an entrance low price driving type unit. Not a lot of whistles and bells that make work easier for the operator. I know in the Branson badge. moving up to the 30 hp frame buys you a lot more than just power. Going from badge to badge probably hard to tell but gonna bet it's industry wide to have the little guy the "leader" to get the customer in the door.

I agree with all of the posters that the apparently small difference in horsepower will make a big difference, I too have run a five foot brushhog with a 8n, tall thick grass could completely stall it. The 34 hp tractor I have now doesn't even breath hard in the same situation. You won't regret getting the bigger tractor.

I'm a newbie and am trying to decide between a Mahindra 1526 HST and a New Holland Workmaster 33.
I'm a gentleman farmer with 5 acres. I'll basically only use a 5ft tiller and a 5ft bush hog and move some dirt and most likely, some snow. Is the 7HP difference a big deal and is it worth $3K more to have?
Thanks!

I agree with others you will notice the difference in power.

What's up with the 1020? This tractor in good shape should handle your list of chores quite well. Have you considered restoring what you have?

Thank you for the great advice everyone. It's very helpful. Jenkinsph, I love my 1020 and it's in very good shape, but it's a beast with weighted agri tires so it trashes my lawns when I drive across it while doing light yard work. I have lots of wet areas also, so it gets buried easy with only rear wheel drive. I also need to find a carburetor for it. Getting it rebuilt isn't an option. Any ideas where I could find a carb for it?
