CCJONE:

If you really want a good hand winch, try a Lug-All.
I have been in commericial construction for 35 years, and that is the only brand that you see on the job sites. I'll try and include the website link. http://www.lug-all.com/index.php

Cckjone,

I don't know anything about winches...

But I could not help but wonder if you still have all the blades on the plastic cooling fan that is exposed under the tractor?

Sticks can break them off pretty easily from what has been reported here...I suppose mud could squeeze up and do the same thing. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Might be worth taking a look before the hot weather arrives, just in case. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Based on this discussion, I just bought a 4-ton come along winch online for about $40. If I ever need to use it to unstick my BX2230, I'm gonna anchor it to the tow hitch of my Ford F250 4x4 diesel.

Henro,
Thanks for the heads-up about the cooling fan. Good advice, I'll check it this weekend. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Funny thing you mention a come-along. I was at Tractor Supply Co. on Saturday (first time there), trying to find the right tools to use my tractor (arrives tomorrow) to help me pull out about 25 metal fence posts from the muck in my pond. I explained that I dared not venture into the pond, or I'd be stuck just like the original poster. The lady at the register suggested a "tough rope and a come-along." I said (admitting my ignorance), "what's a come-along." She said, "come along, and I'll show you" (I wonder if she's been able to use that line before. For less than $25 bucks I've got a hand winch and rope, both rated at 7000 pounds, to get the fence posts out. She warned me that the winch is stronger than it looks, and that if I hook one end up to the tractor, and another to the fence post, to watch out in case I start pulling the tractor into the pond instead of pulling the post out of the mud.

On the way home, I realized that, in a worse-case scenario, this inexpensive combo could help me get out of some hairy situations.
