This is expected only if we drop power for an extended period of time.

We drop power often and I run on a EU2000i
This let's us run the pellet stove, frig, fish tanks and lights
and uses perhaps 2 gallons of gasoline a day.

If we need water we can run a tractor and PTO to bring up everything else.

If I run out of gas and diesel I want to use some of the fuel in the heating oil tanks.

But how do I get it out of my heating oil tanks ?

I can't just poke a hose down there it will pick up all sorts of junk.
The Kubota BX23 doesn't even have a fuel / water separator.

The only way I can do this now is to open up the bleed screw on the
oil furnace and run that into a tank. That will take for ever.

I have a 2 fuel oil filters and 2 tanks.

What do people do ?

My fuel supplier tells me the fuel oil is ok to use in my tractor.

The tractor is 10 years old.

My oil tanks are outside at ground level ( I use fuel treatment to prevent gelling) and my boiler is in the basement. I plumbed in a tee and a hose connection to fill my fuel cans.

How about removing one of the plugs from the top and dropping a syphone in to get the fuel?
I would zip tye the hose to a broom stick about 6" from the end to keep the hose off the bottom.

I have the fuel dealer fill a 55 gallon drum when I have my tanks filled. I keep it int he garage on a base with wheels so I can roll it around. That way I never use on-road diesel and I have enough to get me through the winter. If I buy it late enough in the year they even put anti-gel in it (just make sure you are buying off road diesel as HHO normally doesn't have it included). I have an electric pump but it would be just as easy to make a stand and put a valve in the 3/4" bung on the drum and use the fel to raise it into place. A 55 gallon drum full of fuel can be put in the back of a pickup or like I occasionally do on a very small trailer. If I don't use all of the 55 gallons in a reasonable amount of time I transfer it into the heating oil tanks.

Just thought I would throw an alternate idea out there. HHO is smelly and draining it out of the tank was going to get me into trouble with the little lady so I had to find a different solution. My plan was to replumb the vent line so I could remove a cap and drop a hose down into it and use a cheap hand pump or horrible freight electric pump to fill a jug when needed. My dealer sells off road diesel at the same price as HHO so I get free antigel.
