1968 mf135
Hello,
We have a 1968 Massey Ferguson 135 gas 4 cylinder Continental motor. The carb needs a rebuild kit. The problem is I don't know what carb I have to order a kit. Is there a easy way to figure out what carb it is?

Thanks
Matt

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # 1302 is an "economy" rebuild kit that is recommended for Marvel-Schebler TSX-882. It is made in USA - I used it to rebuild a TSX-882 and the quality is good. This kit is available from RockAuto.com if you want to save a few bucks. Hope this helps.

The part number is 1302 (not 1303). - I fixed the post & apologize for the confusion.

Thanks everyone,
I looked on google at pictures of the tsx 882. My looks very fermillier but when I look at pictures of the rebuild kits, the needle valve looks different than mine.

Mine is a rectangle with the little rubber arrow on the end. The ones I see in the kits look like the have a "tang" that would sit in a float holder like ive seen on many motorcycle carbs? Any ideas?

Here is a link to the instruction sheet packaged with Standard Motor Products #1302: View attachment HYGRADE 1302 Instructions.pdf. The detail should help you.

Well I installed the new kit tonight. The tractor runs great, good power and doesn't die out like before. But now if i let the tractor sit not running for 5-10 minutes the carb starts leaking fuel out almost as if the needle valve was sticking....

Im wondering if maybe I set the float level wrong. I set it 1/4 of a inch off the gasket mating surface which I believe the instructions said. The gap was a lot more before I adjusted it. Is 1/4 inch the proper spec?

0.25 inches is the correct float setting.
Things to check:
  1. The float needle has a nitrile tip - did it get damaged? I have heard people recommend "seating" the needle by applying light pressure to it - I have never done this and the instructions specifically recommend against this.
  2. Is a float chamber leaking? They are made of soldered brass and there could be a pin hole. They should be completely empty - no gasoline, only air.
  3. Does the float & lever assembly appear bent? The float chambers and arms should both be parallel and 0.25" from the gasket mating surface at all points (as shown in the instruction sheet).
  4. Float valve seat/gasket leaking - is it tight? Did you install the new gasket? Did the seat get scratched?

Hope this helps.
