so I have this 324 Rhino tractor, It has been pretty good to me, and I can not afford to replace it anyway. So I have changed the head gasket about 2 years ago, and now it struggles to start. So now I am going to pull the pistons and change the rings. But I have water in the oil. just recently.
When I did the gasket the first time, there was a lot of rust in one of the cylinders. So now I have it apart, and am thinking, Can I remove the liner and change it? how much force does it take to remove the liner?
Anyone ever done this before on one of these? my engine is a beyne 294.

Thanks
Doug

I have used a piece of threaded rod to remove the liners on a ford jubilee. You need a piece of hard alumimum turned on a lathe a little smaller than the liner with a grove that fits the liner. On the top you use a piece of pipe with a cover on top, with a hole in the center for the rod. The great thing about this method is you don't have to remove the block from the tractor and take it to the machine shop.

On my engine (YD485) the liners come out easily if you remove the piston.

What kind of oil pan do you have? Some of them have an inspection port in the bottom, and you can disconnect the connecting rod through the inspection port, and all you have to do to remove the piston is to remove the head and disconnect the connecting rod. On other engines (like mine) the oil pan is connected to the transmission and to the front axle, and to remove the oil pan you have to split the tractor and hoist the engine out, which is pretty involved.

If they are dry liners they should slip right out. If they are wet liners you will need a puller, which you can rent.
Now am I correct in assuming you will have already removed the pistons? Always remove the pistons first.

yes I will remove the pistons, and change the rings, and replace the rod bearings. THe pan will come off, and I have an inspection port at the side of the liner I believe? I have not taken it off. It may be access to the cam if it has one? But I do not want to pull the tractor apart. Been there for a clutch, not much fun.
So I need to order the liner, then have a piece of aluminum made, a pipe larger than the cylinder and a plate and threaded rod. I can do that, I think.
Putting them back in takes a wood block and a big hammer? or what?

I think at this point it is worth the extra work and $$ to fix it and have it work correctly.

Do you have 'wet' or 'dry' liners?

I believe that they are "wet" but I do not know how to tell by just looking at the block with the liner installed. is there a way?

after looking at the manual there is an seal ring at the bottom of the liner, So I am sure that they are wet
