I'm trying to disable my seat switch on my Z mower. I know....this is a tractor forum! Just pretend....its a Deere at least!

Anyway, I unplugged it (its a simple 2 prong plug) and mower starts but I can't release the brake or it dies. I'd like to simply put a jumper across the terminals in the wire so I can reach back to my spreader to turn it on/off without the motor nearly dying before I can get back on the seat but thought I'd best check to see if there are any pitfalls with this approach. Other than the obvious safety reason that the thing exists.

Thanks.
Dave

Rules say you can't discuss disabling safety devices on the forum.

But the cow jumped over the moon just fine

If you disable one safety you may as well go whole hog. Disconnect the kill wire at the engine while doing the spreader thing and all those pesky safety switches will be disabled. To kill the engine when finished, turn the switch to off position and re-connect the kill wire that was unhooked.

I know this is a no-no thing to do, but I have the same problem on my 3320 hitching something up and having to get off and on numerous times when within a few inches being hydrosatic. Should be some type of overide a person could hook up that would show the liability is mine only in case of an accident. I can not reach the 3-point on mine and move the hydrostatic pedal at the same time. (Another point). Safety devices are definitly needed on equipment, but there is room for improvement so they are not bypassed. Ideas on how to do this while keeping the machine safe I'de like to hear as I'm sure others would too. It's easy to put a disable device on any machine, but it's hard to put one on that an operator will not want or bother to bypass.

Forum rules say you can't tell how to do this. Too many lawyers. I agree with you. When I lean over on my seat on my 2305 to see where the edge of my FEL bucket is the engine quits. Now that is totally ridiculous. Anyways I disabled mine by making it think that there is sufficient weight on the seat.

I think you know what to do. I won't tell you how. ;)
I jumped mine. Works great now.
I have to stand to see where the tips of the front forks are at, and I regularly get off the tractor and leave it running.

My 2305 seems to have a delay built in - if I bounce on the seat, or just pop up&down real quick for a peek, my engine keeps running. I thought this was as designed by the factory. Does yours not do this?

I have one of the covers on my seat, and find in the cold weather the tractor wouldn't start until body heat softened the seat. I also did the bypass thing:laughing: in the winter, but keep my lap restraint on. JIM

Not on my 3320 cab tractor. Lift up a little bit to see something and I see it real close from the windshield. Guess that's why I should always wear my seatbelt.
