Seriously! I am really not that mechanically challenged. But I have no idea how to connect the fuel door. Where did a little Springs go? I've tried this before and gave up and now I'm back at it Can someone take a picture of an intact unit? Has anyone successfully replaced one of these? Help! TIA!

This is on a 4310 - I imagine most are similar

I know the issue you're having. It is a whole lot easier to look at one in-person.
The spring doesn't go as you would think - which is to put the hinge pin through the spring coil. Don't do that - although that does look to be the obvious orientation.

The tag ends of the spring engage with the flap (door) and the Bonnet (Hood) itself. Then the hinge Pin is installed. The coils face the rear (Towards the steering wheel).

You really do need to see another one but I hope this helps. Perhaps go to your dealer and take pics. Or someone here can post pics. Close-up's pls.

You need the two rubber bump-stops to be there so the 'door' doesn't over-close which reduces the tension on the spring and it can fall out.

By jd parts, looks like it is a bit different from my 4300, and may be different at a s/n break for the 4310

Take a few pics to post of the parts you are working with... then maybe we can point you in the right direction.

I don't think the hood on my 4300 is original so it might be similar to your 4310.

Wow! Thx. I will try - I am pretty sure that is what I was trying- but knowing for sure that is the setup will help immensely.

Good pics Tex.
Rocky: you can also see the rubber buttons there in Pic.1. The tails are about 30mm long so you can pull them down from the underside.
I hope you got your springs installed ok.

They are areal pain to get hooked. For small springs they are very stiff. Be careful not to break the plastic hood when getting them connected. Needle nosed pliers, maybe 90 degree or 45 degree seem to work best I think.

It is on, and epoxy is now set on the small crack.
Thanks to all!
