How do I fix my first flat, the tire\'s so ....BIG

I had my first flat, an hour after getting her back from a 50 hour service. It's a rear tire and I ran over a piece of rebar some idiot put as a property marker (guess who /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif).

It's flat and off the bead, but clean. Can I do this myself or bring it to the dealer? It's got 250lbs of weight so I don't feel like trying to move the thing (on a NH TC40DA).
From where I sit it seems getting the wheel to hit the bead is gonna be tough, and I'm wondering if Slime will seal the puncture wound.

There are tire services that have repairmen who bring a truck to your tractor, and likely not even take it off the tractor. They are equipped to do farm tractors and the like. Check with your dealer. Sounds serious enough to maybe need a boot and/or a tube.

Yep at the JD store we call Goodyear and the nice fellow comes with his truck, fixes the flat right on the forklift or combine and we and him are on our way in about 15-20 mins. I would call a Goodyear AG tire dealer or a Firestone AG dealer will also be able to help you.

Another thought, IF you have or have access to a ratcheting strap...

Put the strap around the circumference of the wheel & tighten it down as far as you can, then (presumiung you have compressor??) try to fill yourself.

I did this just other day with my FRONT tire of my industrial backhoe

Was it a pain in the #($? yes, but having my machine down the road a bit (unattended) where some of the ner-do-well's hang out was the lessor of the two evils /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I tried it for the first time Sunday realizing I had nothing to lose since. Tire dudes were not around.

don't know if it will work for you, but if you got the goods to try it with, you too may have nothing to lose?

Good luck with your situation

I don't think slime is going to fix a puncture from rebar... unless you have the 'man upstairs' install it for you...

Looks like it is time for a tube and boot.

While I've changed a few tractor tires before myself.. I just let the tire man do it now.. the few bucks he charges is worth my back.. and cussing for 2 hours.

If the center is heavy.. just remove the rim and tire.. if you take it in.. otherwise get a 'farm call'.

Agree with sound guy all the way!!! tube it..and be sure u patch the inside of the tire...had a flat a while back myself.... my tire is much to big to lift...so took it off...(jacked up the rear end.....put brake on and in 4x4..low ,low and in 1st gear)
chocked all three other tires... rolled tire to fel...picked it up with fel and backed up pickup underneath..put in bed and brought it to my tractor buddies..broke bead...patched hole....put in tube...filled her up ..then back to cut....unloaded with fel...yes i put her in neutral during lifting guys /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
put her back on and away i went......bout $ 15.00 for tube

Re: How do I fix my first flat, the tire\'s so ....BIG

That's an unfunny coincidence - I got my 1st flat right after my 50 hr. as well. Mine turned out to be a snapped valve at the rim. Anyway - I used the stabilizer to raise the rear, removed the tire, and used a landscape trailer to bring the tire to the shop for repair. Personally I wouldn't try a repair myself, I don't have the tools or the know how to do it right. Hopefully you can get it done quick - I know what it's like to lose a weekend to some silly problem like that.

Good Luck!

NEW HOLLAND TC40 DA WITH BELLS AND WHISTLES $23k

TOP AND TILT INSTALLED AT 50 HOUR SERVICE $575

FLAT TIRE ONE HOUR AFTER GETTING TRACTOR BACK FROM 50 HOUR SERVICE $1,000,000 bummer /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

HAVING TIRE DUDE AT YOUR STEPS 4th JULY WEEKEND FIXING THE FLAT IN 10 MINUTES $135

WATCHING YOUR TWO YEAR OLD SON, IN AWE, SEE A TC 40DA LIFTED BY THE ROPS, FIXED AND STARTED UP AND TAKING A RIDE WITH DADDY....Truly priceless

I won't fix a flat myself. These two guys motored, patched, put in a tube and were gone in no time. Worth the price for my stupidity.
