Thanks! When you sell an item on eBay they notify you of the sale and then notify you when it has been paid for. The buyer pays eBay directly through PayPaL or a few other choices. Then you can click a link they send you and print the label with the postage at a discounted rate from regular USPS prices. Then eBay will subtract the cost of their fees and the shipping from your money and put the balance in your checking account.
The deal is that eBay saves you a little on postage so they raised their fees a little so that you almost pay the same amount but eBay gets more than before. Thanks!
I went and read through Ebay's Printing Shipping Label description and learned the process is now simple, like you describe. Ebay now offers to print the label and provide postage at the time they send you the Sold notice.
Those features required subscribing to a third-party service the last time I sold anything so I had always gone in person to Post Office or UPS pick-up site. This capability now built-in in Ebay, is a great improvement. (Surely there are some costs not listed in Ebay's summary, no?)
Rip Van Winkle, here.![]()
That's good to know. A genuine improvement for the sellers.... And now a seller can list items on eBay, Craigslist and other sites and if he sells it elsewhere he can cancel the eBay listing even if there are bids on it without any penalties.
You got off easy. A few months ago I had to ship a piece of electronic gear out for repair, and the bill came to over $90. Roughly same weight. This was UPS via Staples. The closest UPS depot is only open to the public from 5-6:30pm. Yes, you read that right.UPS. I just returned a 30lb Chinese winch/scrap iron. The depot where I dropped mine off was advertised as 4:00 to 5:00... and it's 60 miles away. After planning my day around being there on time I got there and found that "Due to Covid, hours are 4:30 to 5:30.You got off easy. Do you have the $5 UPS fee to come pick up at your place, or, in your case, can you take it to your nearest business they visit on their route? That works for me to avoid that fee. It's simple to create a UPS account to pre-pay, so then any way you can get it into UPS's possession will work. The depot where I dropped mine off was advertised as 4:00 to 5:00... and it's 60 miles away. I could have don that but wasn't sure about packaging and planned to let them do it... they were a UPS "Packaging" depot after all.Do you have the $5 UPS fee to come pick up at your place, or, in your case, can you take it to your nearest business they visit on their route? I've specified a friend's business as my delivery address to avoid the 'home delivery' fee.
