I'm replacing the hood on my BX2350, and I want to remove the Kubota emblem on the old hood to put it on the new one. It's not clear to me how it would come off. I attached pictures of the top and bottom view of the things I'm trying to remove. There is also a decorative silver thing that attaches using the same approach as the emblem. The parts diagram indicates a nut and plate washer, so I thought maybe it screws off. That didn't work so well. I put a pair of pliers on one of the things sticking out from the bottom, and it broke right off. It looks like metal, but it's really coated plastic.

Have any of you ever messed with these things?

I have no experience, let me state that up front. And it is in front of you, not me.. BUT from what little I can see it appears to be some sort of friction fit fastener, much like the concept of a tinnerman nut. once it goes on, due to the fact it is dished to go on fairly easy, it is heck to get off. I would try a little lube, and try to twist the black section while applying pressure downward with a flat blade screwdriver going round and round to try to even it out. Lube turn and pull gently. I don't think it will be easy.. They don't intend for it to ever come off.

You might have to break off the posts on the old emblem, as those friction-fit washers are a bugger to get off. But you can try prying them off and see how it goes. Could also try snapping/breaking the washers and buy some new ones (small parts bins in a good hardware store).

I am not sure about your BX hood but on my L45 grill the Kubota emblem looks like yours and it was sticky backed. I broke the tabs off the back and peeled the emblem off and used emblem glue to ensure it did not fall off the new grill.

Agree with everything said so far.
Consider using 3M 2-sided body attachment tape to reinstall. Amazing adhesion Made for for this kind of stuff, & you don't have to worry about glue squeeze out.

Get a bit the same diameter of the silver part and start drilling.

Could you use a dremel with a disc, cut the washer in half? Ive moved emblems on my truck and used the automotive 3m double sided tape with great success. One trick i used to get the taped emblem off is to get behind it with dental floss and saw it off. Then rub the remaining tape off with my fingers, but that wont be it in this case.

Napalm & Crazy glue?

Take a grinder with a wire wheel attached, and remove the foam/glue pad that holds the pins,
should just come out with the pins, once that's removed.

I second the thought to take a dremel and cut the press on washers in half as far as you can go close to the posts. Once you make the cut, you should be able to use screwdriver to twist the washer to a point where it will wiggle off. If you can get the two sides of the washer you cut to stick up high enough and spread it, you can take pliers on each side and twist it back and forth to weaken the rest of the crease you make to make it snap off . If you can save the posts - then you can get new press on washers from lowes/local hardware store and reinstall.

Ditto..that is how I do it

I'm amazed at the amount of experience on this board for what I thought was an obscure topic.

If I was starting over, I think I would take TomSellers' advice and just buy a new emblem. For the amount of money I paid for the hood, it's not much extra. I ended up doing what square1 suggested, and just drilled out the part that was holding it on. Then it came off easily. It felt so firmly attached that I was afraid it was also glued on.

Once I got it apart, I finally understood what was holding it together. It's just a thin washer that's kind of shaped like an up-side-down dinner plate. The washer has little teeth that are angled so it slides on easily, but it doesn't want to slide off. I wasn't quite understanding the suggestions using a dremel, but I get it now. I think that would have worked if I used my strong reading glasses and plenty of patience. ;-)

Thanks again for all the help.

Yeah, it is a Tinnerman nut. I said that early on...If you twist them and pry very gently.. they will come off. Some lube can help a bit also.

Late seeing this, but just as James says you can gently pry and twist and they'll work right off. I pulled mine too to have a little silly fun...
