I see some of the farm equipment suppliers have the replacement link arm balls. They seem to carry the weld on and just the ball. How do you go about replacing just the ball? I have cat 2 arms and would like to put cat 1 balls in so I don't have to use bushings on cat 1 implements.

Think you may have to use the weld ons. The ball rotates in what appears to be a pressure formed socket.

You cut the ends off of your arms and weld the new ends on. Or, have you thought about tack welding the sleeves in you balls? There is another way. You could change the pins on the implements to a Cat. 1, if you don't have many implements.

Another suggestion that others don't always like is forget about the sleeves. We have Cat 1 implements that have been used for 25 years on Cat 2 3 point with no sleeves.

Only difference is a little easier to hook up.

The hay rake, tedder, spreader, wood splitter, and bush hog are all cat 1. The only Cat 2 we have is the snowblower.

Some cat 2 tractors actually have replaceble sockets.. so you can swap ball sizes. For the others.. you just weld a new end on it.

As others said.. sleaves work fine too.
