Mine doesn't go up far enough to get my backhoe on right. It is shy about 1". The manual says it can be adjusted but by a dealer. I don't want to take it to a dealer.

If I understand the brief description given, there is an adjustment feedback rod connected to the rockshaft, that senses it's height and turns off the hyd valve.

I had to adjust mine on JD 4300, because the rockshaft arms were at their top limit, but the oil flow wasn't shut off, and the relief valve was coming into play. Can't imagine yours is that far out of adjustment in the other direction (not high enough), but possible.

I'd recommend getting more input about the situation before doing much with it, based on what you've said so far. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have the same problem on my 4310 and 48 backhoe. The arms lift the backhoe about one inch shy of getting the pins in.

I never bothered to adjust the rockshaft, I just use the outriggers to lift the hoe into position so the pins can be put in. I lift it as far as it will go with the three point arms, change the hoses over and then finish the lift with the outriggers.

Have you guys tried adjusting the hooks on your backhoe? They will adjust so that they engage sooner, thereby lifting the bh further. It is mentioned in the 48 manual.

I was working on the same problem yesterday, (47 backhoe on a 4410) read the same thing in the manual, "take to your dealer". Mines about 1/2 short of getting the pins in.

Related question, did you mount your RSA plates yourself? If so were you able to get the "two" 5/8 washers between the left-plate and the axel housing? I could only get one. Had I but the two as specified in the instructions, it would have shimmed the plate too far out. Just didn't seem right.

My 48 BH was coming up just a hair short of getting the pins in. I fixed it by adjusting the hooks as jeffinsgf mentioned.

When they wouldn't line up and I hadn't made the adjustment yet I lifted the front end with the bucket until it put pressure on the BH and this lifted the BH up enough so the holes would line up. I also saw where someone else used the out riggers on the BH. Either way is a work around if you can't get the adjustment made on the rockshaft height.

Worj artound is right. Using the outriggers and the boom are also dangerous to the operator and or machine. I have done this, and highly recommend getting them lined up properly using either or both of the adjustments already mentioned...

I had this problem and it is a simple fix using the threaded adjustment rod located at the back of the tractor. The dealer can do it or you can. Adjusting the hooks is the wrong solution.
