I want to convert my landscape rake to being hydraulically operated from side to side. I measured the distance from where I want to mount the cylinder to the rake and the rake frame at a 45 degree angle and it is 24" between these two points. I want to be able to move either side 45 degrees by either pushing the cylinder in or out depending on what orientation I want the rake. How do I figure the correct size cylinder, piston diameter, etc. to accomplish what I am trying to do?????? thanks The Original Junk....

Full extension on the cylinder should push the rake the farthest you want it to go away from the cylinder and overall length closed should pull the blade as close as you want the rake to go toward the cylinder. For example: If your 24" measurement was with the rake perpendicular to the tractor then that would be the mid-point of the cylinders travel. As far as rod dia and bore I wouldn't think you would need more than a 1.5/2", 2"/2.5-3.0 cylinder. I suppose it would more depend on the push pull force of the cylinder which would probably be left to someone else to answer as to forces applied when pulling or pushing the rake.

Left us know what you come up.

Regards,
Kevin

Here's a problem: A 24" stroke cylinder has a retracted length of 34+". I think you are going to have to move your cylider end mounting point closer to the rake angle pivot in order to reduce the length of cylinder needed.
Cylinder

How about this cylinder
Its' stroke and retracted length combined is 24". Now what is the distance with the blade swung all the way toward the cylinder. If it is 16" your all set....good price to......

There was a thread in last year that showed a rake or rear blade with a cylinder for changing angle.
I cannot find it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Linkage was used to allow an 8" stroke cylinder to change angle about + or - 20 degrees.
Hope someone saved a link to the thread. I want to put it on my rake.

Might this be it?

I'm not sure. But its close enough. I will save it in my remind me folder.
Thanks

Junk,

You got rear remotes? How are you going to operate the cylinder....

I installed rear remotes last summer. There are so many hydraulic lines running on that tractor, that it looks like a snake convention..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do you suppose they really have snake conventions?

I was thinking of the same setup for a Back Blade. I suspect the rake or blade geometry may make a big difference on how you do this unless you want to get in to a major refab. Maybe a closeup of the pivot point area would be usefull. In Mikes picture the setup would not require a great deal of accuracy on the cylinder length. .In fact it appears they are more concerned about what angle you end up at than attempting to get a full swing to a stop seeing that this rake can do a 360
Diameter of cylinder rod seems to be a function of the force capable so I guess I would match it to the PSI (2000)? of the tractor although that could tear the rake up... so know I am perplexed also. I guess I will have to wait for the Hydraulic gods to speak

Junk I could, but I don't think I'm going to touch that........... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I also think John has a few good points. That cylinder geometry looks good to me. And it looks like there aren't too many other suggestions. Junk what did you do this time to make everybody at the TBN site mad at you again ? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
