I've looked in the manual and at the MX6, and can't figure out how you drain the gearbox oil. Hopefully this is a simple question with a simple answer :)

Pete,

I would recomend checking the oil level and pull a sample with a large straw which can be dribbled on a white paper towel. I would do this immediately after the unit has been turning at max speed for a few minutes, allow the pto to stop all motion and shut off the tractor and catch a sample. Look for signs of metal flakes and milky oil. If all is well and full close it up and mow.

I would think your MX6 is barely broken in. I would rather you take the time to check the oil level and then try out the landplane/grader and give us a report.:D

I used a cheap turkey baster to suck it out. Mine was years old and had collected condensation enough to turn a bit milky. Gears look fine still.

Thanks to all for the answer- there is no drain plug

I have to drain/change the oil in my tiller, and that got me thinking about he MX6. Also trying to get all the "things" and fluids to keep all the stuff going sitting on the shelf and was looking to the fall for an MX6 oil change (should be broken in by then). Finally, seems like a good idea to do the "straw pole sample" in the spring and be sure any condensation from the winter will cause any problems.
Kyle, I've had a turkey baster in the tool kit for a few decades (though they seem to only last about 5 years). Very handy part!

Every two weeks or so the MX6 gets about 3 hours of use. Last mowing time I also cleared the back side of a dam that hadn't been touched in 3 years. It did great! It was sweet to laugh at the fire ants and bees:D. I go out tomorrow to pick up a few big rocks so it's easier the next time, suspect the mowing will be an annual event.

Steve, with the garage done I'm now working on the solar project. In a week or so I'll _finally_ be ready to do the grade work around both projects and get the land plane dirty  The tractor is up to 45 hours so far.

Have a problem with the sickle bar, I'll fire up a thread for that...

tnx again for the replies!

Pete
