As some said it going to happen, try a pack driveway the best you can before winter hope the ground freezes, also adjust plow shoes.
Early spring clean up kinda must.

Since you won't be home during plowing season there isn't much you can do. You are at the mercy of the plow truck driver.

If you were home and were doing it yourself, this is what I did.....

I added a slotted pipe to go over the cutting edge of my rear blade.

You pack down a layer of snow before you plow and make sure the drive is frozen. Then you plow with the pipe. It will remove the snow and glide over the gravel. Since I've been using this set up I hardly ever get any gravel in my lawn.

I have never successfully been able to keep gravel out of the grass. It seems technically impossible because the snow bunches up and the gravel gets caught. Some guys have told me of limited success with the round tube on the edge of the plow as shown in the prior post. Nice blade by the way.

The gravel I kick out does go back fairly easy with a leaf blower. I've gut a powerful one and can do my 400ft driveway in maybe 15 or 30 minutes. The trick is to get it before the grass starts to grow very much in the Spring. Next best is the summer or fall after the grass stops growing and turns brown. That works too.

It has taken me decades to submit but I wonder if the only way is to get a snowblower on skids. Not sure that will work either but it's next on my list and I'm on the lookout for a five footer. Another thought is to use the black asphalt road surface that they can grind up and pack down on the drive. That seems like it ought to wok but wife is opposed to it.

The pipe welded to the back blade edge looks like a great idea. I move a lot of dirt with my blade, so I think I'll wait till my edge is worn, and weld the pipe to the old edge when I replace.

I've heard mixed reviews on the ground blacktop for driveways. It's great in the warm weather, but is easy to break up in the winter, as it's usually only put down about 1.5-2" thick. In the spring when the drive gets soft due to frost melting, it tends to bust up in chunks. Or so I've been told.

On the pipe welded to the edge of the blade, I have heard of guys using plastic pipe. I don't know any more than that or what kind of pipe but I am certain it was plastic and only temporarily attached.

If you look close at the pics above, the pipe has tabs welded to it so it is bolted to the rear blade not welded to it. The pipe is taken off in the spring and put back on in the fall.

Yes, a plow jockey can tear up such a driveway. One near Almont was repaired this past summer due to plow misuse. It was about 4" and was about $1200 to fix. The victim, a widow, will be using her own tractor/loader/rear blade to deal with snow, if we get any.

I have no new suggestions all above sound reasonable. I have been there and after years of fighting with the stone I gave up and paved.
