Put some money down on a 2544, I like the way that it looks, seems to be very well built. Tired of replacing the transmission belt on the 1525 I have now. Dealer claims that mtd has fixed the hood cracking, and the hood melting issues. Should of asked for input before i put money down, but really looks like a good tractor. Just wondering how all the other 2544 owners like there tractor??

I've had my 2544 for two years with zero issues and have about 100 hours on it.

Other than draining the oil being a PIA, I have no complaints.

I have had a GT2554 since I bought it new in 07. It's a great machine, got about 60hrs on it. I had a problem with the hood cracking but the dealer fixed it wth no questions asked. No problems with the hood melting since it has the redesigned muffler shield. I do though on hot days lift the hood when I am done mowing. It stops the grass from getting schorched and it cools off faster. I have the plow and it does a great job on the drive. No amount of snow seems to be able to bog it down. I have a lot of trees and the 54" is able to get around them easier than the smaller ones. It's a great machine.

I bought my 2006 2544 in June of '06. Based on your location, I'm pretty sure we bought from the same dealer, who has been absolutely great to me. Anyway, back to the tractor...

The hood was replaced about 6 months after I bought the tractor, as a precaution. It hadn't broken or melted, but the dealer felt it was going to soon. It was in for it's 25 hours service anyway, so he went ahead and did it (at no cost, of course). I also had him replace the tranny fluid and filter, even though the manual doesn't say to replace the fluid. I did this because I didn't like the idea of relying entirely on the filter to collect break-in material. Other than that, I've just done the regular maintenance.

I've also had two headlight bulbs burn out. I've since replaced the headlight bulbs with LED's from eBay, installed taillights, and installed a switch that controls the headlights and the taillights.

I think you're going to like it a lot. I've been amazed at what I can do with it so far. And the ags I put on the rear make it unstoppable (seemingly). I've attached a photo of my tractor after the last big snowfall we had.

I have a front blade and a rear tiller for my GT2554.
Both are new and have never been ot the tractor.
No hood problems.

1*Mine has a steel hood so no problems with a melted or split hood.
2*I too have installed a couple of head lite bulbs.:)

I have a 2005 2542 which still had the steel hood on it, not the plastic. I have probably 250 hours on it by now, and other than breaking a belt or 2, being a gas hog, and paying a premium for spare parts, it's been a great tractor. It's no Mahindra, but then again it's not a fair comparison.

I'm going on season 4 with my 2544. No issues that I haven't caused myself. Your days of transmission belt changing/adjusting/fiddling are over my friend!! If CT grass is similar to my closely-cropped Western NY weeds, the cut will be fantastic. I still get comments on how nice the cut is and I've yet to sharpen the blades at 100hrs!! They look/feel good yet. I would like another 4" of deck width to accommodate close/trim work, but it's nothing you can't go over with a push mower or string trimmer. Close trimming is tough with the 44" and has to be impossible with a 42". 42" is WAAAAY too small for a 2500 series machine IMO.
