after my second sleepless night this week thought I,d ask how every one likes there current matteress, and what type it may be?I just bought the brand with the counting sheep and from my experience they have a HUGE flock!I used to use sleepless nights as my problem solving time but my other half informed me,that if I turned the light on one more time in the middle of the night she would see to it thatI would have no more problem as it would be a very permanant sleep!:laughing:How can I remember what I solved if I,m not allowed to turn on a lamp to write down notes?:confused:Anyway didn,t want to give anyone the wrong idea about the title of this post cuz we all know tractor folks is good people:thumbsup:Dave

I sleep well if I will just get in bed but I seem to always have too many new interests to read about and work on to get in bed as soon as I should. It is the backhoe at this point in time. :)

The arthritis pain use to wake me up after 5-6 hours but since I started acupuncture in 2008 I do not wake up in pain. I have been cut back to going once a week now.

Tempur-Pedic - Mattresses, Pillows, Sleep Systems- Welcome to Bed. - These are expensive but you get what you pay for and you also have to consider spending 1/3 of your life in bed. We've had a king size for 5 years and no more problems with back pain. A glass of skimmed milk 30 minutes before going to bed knocks me out so you might also wanna give that a try.

Donkey's breakfast, anyone?

I have to say that I can sleep on almost anything as long as it isn't too soft. All tolled, I've spent 3-4 of my 34 years sleeping on the floor and will take it over an overly soft bed anytime. I'm 6'6" and feel crowded in most any bed and I suppose that has something to do with my general feeling that there's no such thing as a great bed.

The Wife (not THAT wife, or A wife, but THE Wife) grabbed us a sheep-brand pillow top mattress because she likes it; they're all the same to me. She wanted a king size but I insisted on getting a queen size...A king size has enough room for her to get out of grabbing range. ;)

I sleep well, so long as the air in the room is fresh, and the mattress isn't too soft.

I recently had a run of sleepless nights, and found that it was simply because I was too warm (I'd wake up sweating). I changed duvet to a lighter one, and it made a world of difference. My missus is a little furnace, and a king.size duvet lets me escape her incessant heat from time to time. ;)

Other things to consider:
Don't eat too close to bed-time.
No caffeine in the afternoon.
Make sure you're not over/under hydrated

When actually trying to sleep, it's possible to actively STOP thinking about things. Each time you realise you're thinking, actively try to imagine a giant endless expanse of dull grey. Concentrate on it's featureless boring endlessness - It's hard to actually empty your mind of thought, but once you actually manage it, you drift off rather fast :)

It sucks lately. I must have some pinched nerve or such and it is fine when I fall asleep but after few hours my arm starts tinkling like it fall asleep and I have to sit for hour plus to make it go away.

I am up for work by 3:30 AM so once we get the kids down at 8:00 PM or so I am out. I could be on a bed of nails or glass and I am gone, but if I have a lot going on at work, or am worried about finding work or about stuff around the house, good or bad, or even a project the next day then I will be up at 2 AM with my mind racing. If I could clear my mind I would sleep probably better and longer for sure.

Certainly stuff that others have mentioned is important, fresh air is good, too hot or humid is bad, but I don't find that my mattress affects my sleep as my mind. Also our 2 and 4 year olds can interrupt your sleep.

I also have a Tempur-Pedic - wonderful, just for the first couple of months it off gasses, so i was getting some headachs. After that though i sleep like a baby, no back issues at all.

My wife has one brother who has a Tempur-Pedic and says he likes it. Two other brothers tried them and sent them back. I got their literature, sample, etc., and considered them before buying a Select Comfort Sleep Number Bed over 7 years ago (September, 2002). The Sleep Number bed ain't cheap, but if anything happened to it, I'd just have to buy another one.

I sleep with two females most every night. One is my wife the other our 10 month old daughter. So most nights I am sleeping very lightly.

On the bed side, we have a king size firm pillow top, added one of the foam 2" toppers to it. It comfortable as far as I am concerned, but I could sleep just about anywhere. In fact some nights when one of the boys wake up, I end up sleeping in their room on the floor on a little mat that we bought at Costco for yoga or something. Plenty comfortable for me.

I always tend to sleep the best when I exercise before going to sleep though. Running on the treadmill, riding the bike or lifting.

Good luck and better sleeping.

thanks for the tips guys.Been thinkin about the air chamber type bed but if I forget to remove the screw driver from my back pocket it wouldn,t be good!:laughing:I may just have to spend more time looking for a mattress that seems to work better for me.They all seem so good at the store and the first few nights but after that the trouble starts all over again.Maybe I should just take up heavy drinking:confused2: Dave

We may be one of the few couples left who own a water bed. Don't know how many own one, but don't seem to run into too many who do any more. I can't say that I sleep the greatest, though I don't think the bed is the reason. It is very comfortable and being able to control the temperature of the water is nice.
I seem to want to wake up at about 3:00 AM every morning and have a hard time falling back to sleep. Start thinking about all the stuff that needs to be done. Gotta get up at 5:15 so the last couple hours of sleep are kind of useless. I do make sure I get to bed plenty early though, never much later than 9:00PM, usually closer to 8:30.

For me another thing to help me sleep is to stay off the computer just before bed. I think it's staring at the lighted screen and thinking about "who is now wrong on the internet!" syndrome that gets me worked up.

Of course this is not a new topic, so you might want to look at a couple of older threads, such as Mattress shopping and Way Off Topic - Mattresses. I guess the nice thing about the air cushion mattresses is that you can adjust the firmness anytime instead of being stuck with one fixed amount of firmness. I've changed mine 3 times in 7 years.

bird, wasn,t planning on being on here today but just posted about mice chewing my apple trees and saw your post.I really like the adjustable option but some friends have the sleep# and the mrs. says its very hard to clean under it.Has you spouse said anything? She seams to think it attacts dust bunnies?,and very limited room under it to get at them. She maybe just"one of those" if you get my drift.Dave:)

Dave, you don't use springs under the sleep number bed (or any other air bed, I guess). You want a solid flat surface for it. You could just put it on the floor if you didn't mind being down that low. Or you could make a wooden platform for it. However, we bought their "foundation" which is black plastic sections that snap together and go on the same frame as our old springs and mattress. so I don't know of any way it could attract dust bunnies or be any harder to clean under it than any other bed.
