I'm always looking for better ways to store things so I can find them, keep them off the floor, and use space efficiently. Here are some of them, please show me your ideas!

I'm going from a workshop of about 12x15 with a shed about 10x15 to shops of about 5,000 sq feet.

Shops:

I prefer "industrial style" pallet rack:
Ranging from 12 ft high with up to 5 levels of storage.

To 8' with 2 levels, upper for storage, lower for "work surface"

Overall I presently have about 112 linear feet of pallet rack units about 42 to 48 inches wide with shelving space of about 1500 sq feet.

By making many of the units with the first shelf at about "elbow level" I've got about the equivalent of 80 linear feet of 4 foot wide "worktable" spread over 3 workshops. I put down the cross supports, a 3/4" sheet of PT plywood and a 3/4" sheet of MDF. This gives me a good smooth hard surface.

Then the first rack level above the worktable may be used for storage. Subsequent higher levels I'm only storing empty boxes on presently. I actually have most of the upper levels empty now, but they are there for the future.

I'm trying to learn to pick up my toys :)
I'm discovering with 5,000 sq foot of space I have to start calculating in distance to get "stuff" when I do a project :)

How do I say this........?

Nice rack(s) jb. :D

How do you get the grapple up there? FEL and chains? You and a friend? Ceiling mounted winch?

For smaller stuff, 18 gallon Rubbermaid tubs. Number them on all 4 sides. They stack 4 high nicely. Keep a list of what you've got and what tub its in. Works great. Get em on sale or they cost a fortune now! Used to get them for $3.00 each, now, lucky to find them on sale for $8.00!

The JD FEL standard connector allows for carefully mounting and in mounting of the unit. I just disconnect the 3rd function before putting it up there. The snow blower I step onto a pallet and put on the top shelf after winter is over.

going to need to steel your "chicken wire mesh" for short handle tools in a box.

everything else i pretty much already have, exception i had to go abit crazier than your pipe holders for fishing rods and weed eater. ((see left diagram))

got tired of trying to find stuff in drawers, along with mice nests, so hung everything up (see right diagram in attached picture) so much easier to find stuff and put it away now. i might of lost a bench, but i gained a few hours finding tools i wanted vs messing with drawers. and all the tools are at eye sight, without bending down / kneeling down.

I do like my tool caddie on a pallet rack. I may make another one, or put this one on wheels.

I think I need a picture of your completed diagram, it may give me more ideas.
