When I unhook one of my PTO driven implements I like to tie up the pto shaft so it doesn't lay on the grond. This also keeps the shaft above the crossbar for the quick hitch when rehooking. I have been using black tarp straps but they don't last. I am sure there are some good ideas out there. What do you use?

I generally take the front half of the driveshaft with me when I leave. That way the PTO coupler stays out of the weather (most of my implements live outdoors for now :() and if someone decides to remove one of my "lawn ornaments" they'll be shopping for half of a PTO shaft before too long.

I tie the remaining half of the shaft out of the way and off the ground.

A bugee cord and a plastic zip lock bag work great...when you finish slip the zip lock bag over the coupler and zip is closed around the shaft...then use the bugee cord to keep it up off the ground..works for me...

I make a hook from some wire. Usually #12 electrical wire is strong enough.
I wrap one end some where high on the impliment and let the other end hang
with a loop on the end. When I detach the drive from the tractor I clip the
little chain into the loop to hold it up.

I use a short piece of small chain and a spring loaded clasp, run it around the shaft and the upright support for the toplink.

Bungee cord, and most of my stuff is stored in a barn.

Grease is cheap, relatively speaking.

I have had a lot of things I had to repair, universal joints on PTO shafts are not one of them.

Bungee cord here too. My wife got a bag of them somewhere.

One thing I did learn on this thread was to use that bungee to support part of the drive shaft's weight while hooking up. Works good too.

On my rotary cutter the shaft doesn't touch the ground when collapsed and resting on the edge of the deck. On my tiller and my finish mower I just have a scrap of 2x6 treated board laying on the ground that I rest the coupler on - the area I park my equip. in is all graded creek gravel so dirt/mud doesn't get splashed on it during rain and the board just keeps gravel out of the grease on the coupler. I keep all my shafts/joints/couplers well greased so rust isn't a factor.
