Ok, but how do they get 140 hp out of an engine that Caterpillar themselves states has 99.9 hp max??

Do they just turn up the boost on the turbo I wonder? Reprogram the ECM? Change the injectors and so on?

Most likely all of the above. Without a doubt it would include a different ECM Flash, probably different injectors and turbo and possibly even different pistons. I have seen a couple of CAT's engines over the years that had quite a bit higher HP and FT/LB torque in industrial applications then they did in over the road truck applications. Same block and head but many other parts were different.

Do you by chance have the engine serial number (SR#) and arangement number (AR#) off one of these 140 hp engines. If you do I can compare the parts listing on my CAT ET program and see what parts are different between the engines.

Actually after checking the CAT website they list the C4.4 ACERT TA engine (Tier 3, Tier 4A, Tier 4B, Stage IIIA, Stage IIIB) with a base HP of 99-142 so it looks like the 99 is the minimum HP and 142 is the maximum HP for the TA model. Other C4.4 ACERT model engines range from 75 to 99 HP.

Just another quick note. I received my issue of OEM Off-Highway magazine today and it has the annual engine buyers guide in it. Cat list the C4.4 in two verssions in the 100 to 173 HP category. They list one(a regular C4.4) at 100 to 111 HP / 191.8 to 308.3 lb/ft torque and the other (a C4.4 ACERT) at 100 to 142 HP / 238.2 to 410.1 lb/ft torque.
