how does the top link look

The two holes in the top link attachment allow some adjustment on how high the 3pt tips when raised and in some tractors changes the draft sensitivity.

I don't have anything to hook up now later on I will. The pin does not go all the way in because those ends are stopping the pin!.

As long as the pin goes completely through, and allows you to attach a linchpin through the hole to retain it, it's fine. I think those tabs on the tractor might be to keep the linchpin aligned to make it easier to pull later. If that's the case, you should be able to put the top link pin in from the other side and have the linchpin slide under that tab.

The original pin had a flat ground on one side to slip further past the protrusion. So it would not turn.
